Oblivs Obsessions: Candy Cane

Let me just give it to you straight: the way to my heart is through candy canes. Any and everything candy caned. Patterns on fabrics, food products, I even have a piece of jewelry with candy cane on it. Don’t judge – I ordered it by myself via the Avon catalog when I was seven and it’s still chic as hell.

I believe the start of this candy cane obsession came when my college roommate, Aly, and I were ravenously hungry one afternoon when we stumbled upon Jack-in-the-Box. There was a massive window decal with a photo of candy cane milkshake. One look at that sucker and I knew what I was ordering. Can you imagine anything better than a candy cane milkshake in the middle of Phoenix during Christmas?!

This may sound excessive and borderline decadent, but Trader Joe’s happens to have the trifecta of candy cane treats (all highlighted below).  You remember that scene in the Holiday where Cameron Diaz is throwing stuff in her cart and chugging wine? That’s me at Trader Joes. Okay, I wish I could chug wine while shopping. Anywhere. But that’s besides the point.

Not to be confused with peppermint, candy cane is where it’s at. I don’t want a peppermint latte from that terrible coffee place based in Seattle or peppermint bark (c’mon, who wants to eat anything with the word bark in the description?) or light a peppermint candle. Peppermint just isn’t as magical as candy cane.

Oblivs Obsessions: Ring-a-Ding-Ding

For whatever reason I’m mildly obsessed with rings, specifically gold rings. I’m on a constant hunt for one that is not too big and not too small. One that is just right. Sort of like the Goldilocks of accessories. I blame my ring problems on two things: the rising cost of real gold and my abnormally thin fingers.

Luckily with a little help from Forever 21 and clear nail polish (to coat the inside of the ring with so it doesn’t leave a green line), I’m able to purchase three dollar replicas of the rings I lust after. And if money was as plenty as water I would scoop these rings up in a heartbeat.

StyleMint

Let’s face it, the best things come in pairs. Salt and pepper, Elvis and Priscilla, cheese and wine, shoes. That’s why when I heard about Mary-Kate and Ashley’s new website that pairs shopping and social media I instantly became interested.

This dynamic duo knows a thing or two about successfully combining business and fashion.

First there was Elizabeth & James, the fashion darlings debut clothing line and the demise of my savings account. Okay to be fair, first there was Full House, but that’s besides the point.

Then came their coffee table book, Influence, filled with photos and interviews from the most influential taste makers and designers of our time. Santa brought me my copy.

Last Fall they took Pop Up Shops mainstream with the opening of Elizabeth & James’ during Fashion Week in New York City. This concept, along with Embarrassment of Riches, has me thrilled to visit NYC this Fall.

And this week they have me anticipating aforementioned genius combination,
StyleMint. Though little is known about the exacts of StyleMint, according to WWD.com “StyleMint will meld e-commerce and social media platforms to offer consumers a personalized shopping experience, based on a monthly opt-out model, similar to book-, music- and wine-of-the-month clubs.” Luxe t-shirts straight to my door each month? How fantastic does that sound?!
